Christmas Food and Traditions Around the World

 

In China, people light their homes with beautiful paper lanterns at Christmas.

In Mexico, people celebrate Christmas for nine days. They have parties with food, songs, and piñatas full of sweets.

People in The Czech Republic eat a type of fish called carp for the Christmas meal. They buy it from the stalls in the street.

In Spain, some small children leave their shoes next to the window. The Three Wise Men fill their shoes with presents.

In Italy, people have a competition to make the best nativity scene. The first nativity scene was set in a cave. It was made by Saint Francis of Assisi.

In Australia Christmas is in summer. People have barbecues and go to the swimming pool or the beach. They decorate Christmas trees outside, too.

In England the day after Christmas Day is called Boxing Day. Traditionally people give boxes with food and treats to anyone who visits their house.
